My suggestion would be to google search some open source software that actually gets backlinks for you.  Also another way to get backlinks that I have used in the past is to find a popular social traffic exchange where you can surf through sites and get credits and then those credits are auto-assigned which means you get hits to your site which translates into backlinks...especially if you get a lot of unique hits.
